How to Revive a Dried Tulsi Plant: If you have a Tulsi plant at home and it’s not looking bushy, green, and healthy, I know how frustrating that can be.
As a gardening expert and plant lover, I always want my Tulsi plant to be bushy, healthy, and lush. But sometimes, the plant starts to wilt, droop, or stop growing, and that’s when the real challenge begins.
From years of experience, I have learned some simple care tips that keep my Tulsi plant thriving year-round. Today, I’m going to share these tips with you—how I keep my basil plant green and healthy all year long. So, let’s get started!
How to Revive a Dried Tulsi Plant
Understanding the Needs of Tulsi plant
First of all, we need to understand what a healthy Tulsi plant really needs.
- Location & Sunlight: it’s important to place it in the right location, where it receives proper sufficient sunlight,
- Watering: watering should also be done in the correct amount – not too little (underwatering), and not too much (overwatering),
- Soil: along with this, the soil should be rich and well-draining.
These three factors are essential for the proper growth of Tulsi plant.
Assess Your Tulsi Plant Condition
First, you need to assess the condition of your Tulsi plant:
(i) Signs of Life: Check if your Tulsi plant shows any signs of life.
For example, Are the leaves green? Are the stems dry? Are any new leaves or stems emerging?
(ii) Signs of Stress: If the stems appear dry and the leaves are brown and wilted, this is a clear sign that the plant needs immediate attention.
Methods to Revive a Dried Tulsi Plant
1. Pruning Techniques
Pruning is the best way to revive a dried Tulsi plant and promote new growth.
- Light pruning: If your plant is new, around 3 or 6 months old, it’s best to stick to light pruning. Pinch or trim the tips to stimulate 2–3 new shoots.
- Regular Pruning (February to October) – Do regular light pruning to encourage new branch growth.
- Hard pruning (for plants that are one or two years old) – This should be done in February during the spring season.
How to do:
Prune yellow leaves, leggy and dead stems from the base of a Tulsi plant.
- This promotes the growth of stronger, thicker stems and new branches.
- These new branches will then produce healthy, green leaves, resulting in a fuller, bushier, and more vibrant Tulsi plant.
- After hard pruning, add vermicompost to the soil and give proper watering.
- Avoid using heavy fertilizers as the plants are currently leafless.
Important note:
- Do hard pruning in the evening only.
- After hard pruning – keep your plant in shaded for at least 7 days until new leaves emerge.
- This will assist the plant in adapting to its new environment more effectively.
2. Change pot and add compost in the soil
(i) Change the pot of your Tulsi plant – If your Tulsi plant is one or two years old, consider changing the pot if the roots are bound.
- Repot your Tulsi plant into a pot that is two size larger than its current pot.
- This will help the roots to spread and grow.
- It will also allow the plant to absorb nutrients more effectively, resulting in a healthier, bushier plant.
(ii) However, if your plant is relatively new, around 3 or 6 months old, there is no need to change the pot. Simply tilling the soil and adding vermicompost will suffice to promote healthy growth.
Important note:
- Repot your plant in the evening only.
- After repotting keep in shaded area for 3 to 4 days.
3. Follow Proper Watering Techniques
If a Tulsi plant is watered correctly, it will recover quickly. However, any mistake in watering can worsen its condition.
Simply follow this easy method:
- water only when the soil is completely dry,
- water gently until it drains out from the bottom of the pot.
Just remember these two points:
- Avoid overwatering – don’t water if the soil is already wet, as overwatering can damage the Tulsi plant,
- Avoid underwatering – don’t let the soil become too dry – insufficient watering will also cause the Tulsi plant to wilt and die.
4. Provide Good Sunlight To Tulsi plant
Tulsi is a summer-loving plant that needs plenty of sunlight for healthy growth and development.
- Place your Tulsi in a spot where it receives at least 5–6 hours of direct sunlight daily.
- Adequate sunlight supports photosynthesis and helps the plant produce shiny, green, and healthy leaves.
5. Protect Tulsi Plant From Cold
During the winter season, the Tulsi plant enters a dormant state and its growth slows down.
- To prevent it from dying, you must protect it from the cold.
- Keep the plant in a sheltered spot—such as under a green net, in a covered balcony, or away from cold winds and dew.
- Once spring season arrives in mid February, move it back to a sunny spot, and you will see new growth emerge on your Tulsi plant.
6. Give Organic Fertilizers for Tulsi Plant for fast growth
If you want to promote the growth of your Tulsi plant, organic fertilizer is the best option. When applied at the right time and in the right way, it helps the Tulsi plant grow rapidly, becoming lush, green, and healthy.
You can give: “Cow-dung liquid fertilizer, Groundnut cake liquid fertilizer or “Vermicompost”.
