Why Are My Hibiscus  Leaves Turning Yellow?

Hibiscus leaves turning yellow is a natural process, but it can be a cause for concern for some gardeners.

Several factors can contribute to yellowing hibiscus leaves, from watering issues to pest infestations.

1. Overwatering or Underwatering

Overwatering and Underwatering are some of the major causes, making leaves dry and yellow.

Solution:  – Water only when the topsoil feels dry. Ensure good drainage.

2. Poor Drainage & Root Rot

– Stagnant water can suffocate roots, causing them to rot.

Solution:  – Use well-draining soil and pots with drainage holes.

3. Nutrient Deficiency

– Lack of essential nutrients, especially nitrogen, iron, or magnesium.

Solution:  – Feed with a balanced fertilizer (NPK 10-10-10 or 20-20-20).

4. Temperature Stress

– Extreme heat or cold can shock the plant.

Solution:  Keep hibiscus in temperatures between 15-35°C.

5. Pest Problem

– Aphids, whiteflies, and spider mites suck plant sap, causing stress.

Solution:  Inspect the plant for signs of pests. Use neem oil or an organic insecticidal soap to control infestations.

6. Too Much or Too Little Sunlight

Direct harsh sunlight or lack of sunlight causes yellow leaves.

Solution:  – Place in partial sun (4-6 hours of sunlight daily)..

By addressing these common issues, your hibiscus plant should thrive and bloom beautifully.
